I was having a dual play date with my friend and her daughter and me and my daughter. When it was time to leave, I went to the playroom to help clean up. My crafty friend had made a toy grocery store, with PVC piping and awning, a cash register with a microphone and real working scanner to scan the toy produce and food boxes, grocery carts, and a toy ATM that shoots out toy money from a tiny debit card that you put in.
As I was putting away the toy food, I decided to do some shopping. When I went to check out my order, I asked for an employee discount since I had helped clean up the aisles. I didn’t bring bags with me, so I had to purchase those. I know, rip off, but it helps with my salary increase I am expecting next month, so I felt like “oh well, petty cash”. They used an old calculator, the ones with the reams of paper.
The total came to $9,458.10 Must be the new math. I thought a little pricey for eggs, frozen pizza and cereal. But like all stores, I think it was the reusable Hello Kitty bag that really put me over my budget, even with the discount.

Lesson? Always bring your own bags. But you knew that one by now, right?
